Dexter Marston established Retail Site Selectors in 1989. Dexter anticipated a growing need for specialization within the commercial real estate field. For small and midsize retailers that do not have a real estate staff, or for larger retailers that are looking to down-size or who have short-term staffing needs, Dexter’s real estate site selection services fit a unique need in the real estate industry. He built his business by seeking clients who have those special needs.

In January of 2002, the name Retail Site Selectors was changed to Retail Site Development Services. The name change reflects the expanding services provided by Dexter’s firm. By teaming with other real estate specialists (the core group includes an attorney, architect and a contractor), RSDS is able to provide complete project management services to meet clients’ real estate needs.

Dexter was previously the real estate manager for the regional office of McDonald’s in San Diego, CA where he managed the acquisition and leasing of new sites, and a real estate portfolio of 226 properties. Dexter is a real estate broker with a master’s degree in City Planning from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. He is also a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bill McCrum is a Project Manager for Cuningham Group Architecture, P.A. Bill has over 29 years of experience with restaurant and retail development projects nationwide. He has provided architectural design services for many start-up businesses such as Famous Dave’s BBQ, Kokomo’s Island Café, Tiger Sushi, and the Blue Turtle. In addition to design services for start-ups, Bill has provided architectural services to numerous multi-unit concepts such as Chipotle Mexican Grill, Nathan’s Famous, Burger King, Krispy Kreme and Hair Color Express. In addition to architectural design services, the Cuningham Group also offers, as needed, the following services: project programming, contract documentation, construction estimating, scheduling, and construction observation. Bill was recently recognized as the 2005 Minnesota Shopping Center Association Member of the Year.

Christopher McGuire is President of McCon Building Corporation. McCon, since 1987, has been actively involved in retail construction throughout the United States. Their project portfolio includes hotels, restaurants, convenience stores and theaters and more. Some recognizable names within the portfolio are: Culver’s Restaurant (60 new stores and winner of Culver’s “Circle of Excellence Award”), Burger King, Taco Johns, Taco Bell, Cousins Subs, Best Western, Super 8, Mobile, Amoco and Citgo.

Larry Berg, since 1978, has practiced with Fredrikson & Byron exclusively in the areas of real estate, real estate development, land-use and construction law. He has been certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a Real Estate Law Specialist, and served as chairman of the Real Property Section of the Hennepin County Bar Association. He has been an adjunct professor of Real Estate transactions at William Mitchell College of Law and a former lecturer in Business Law and Real Property Law at the University of Minnesota.
